Current
Version: 0.3.0 (21 June 2000)
T he Production Basic project was started in March, 1999 to
provide a commercial quality Business Basic Interpreter and Run-time system to developers
and end users who are familiar with the original Basic Four Business Basic (1970s), and
more recent derivatives.
Production Basic is available at no charge under the GNU Public License -- for any and all
uses - personal and business.
We are also soliciting developers who would like to assist us in the
completion/improvement of the product.

| Version 0.3.0 Released |
21 June 2000 |
After 5 months of work, I think version 0.3.0 is ready for public consumption. This release is actually a fairly major update. I feel that it is the most reliable and feature rich release to date. It cleans up many of the major and minor issues in the last release, as well as adding garbage collection, user-defined functions, arrays, CALLs that work right, nearly complete support for TEXT and INDEXED files and extremely improved execution time. Many core components of the code have been completely rewritten from the ground up to allow for these improvements.
Also, for the first time, a reference manual is included in the distributions.
Hop over to our SourceForge download page to grab the files. We use a garbage-collection library, which is required for compiling. Also, in order to compile or run the program, v4.0+ of the readline library is required.
Take a look at the ChangeLog for a day-by-day breakdown of the improvements.

I've updated the features page with a list of features currently implemented and reasonably stable in Production BASIC.
Go take a look, now you'll know what the thing can do!

| New Motto |
29 January 2000 |
Changed the project's motto from 'The New Business Basic' to 'The GNU Business Basic'
Stanton Fields sent in that suggestion, and I felt that it better represented our goals, and that it was the humorous use of the GNU name required by any Open-Source project these days :-)
